Krishna and Christ

Post by chandresh_kumar »

I was wondering, when I designed a website named krishnajesus.com. One client has awarded me that project. I was thinking that what should be relation between both of them and why the client has chosen such domain name? ???

I could find a conclusion that the client is a tourism company and they are handling Foreign clients, this may be the reason to link Jesus with Krishna... I was happy with my such finding.

One day, I have seen an article in a website and I could know a nice research after reading a really worthwhile information about the relation between Krishna and Jesus, they says:

"Similarities in just the names of 'Christ' and 'Krishna' have enough fuel for the curious mind to prod into the proposition that they were indeed one and the same person"

They have also provided following facts:

•Both are believed to be sons of God, since they were divinely conceived
•The birth of both Jesus of Nazareth and Krishna of Dwarka and their God-designed missions were foretold

•Both were born at unusual places — Christ in a lowly manger and Krishna in a prison cell

•Both were divinely saved from death pronouncements

•Evil forces pursued both Christ and Krishna in vain

•Christ is often depicted as a shepherd; Krishna was a cowherd

•Both appeared at a critical time when their respective countries were in a torpid state

•Both died of wounds caused by sharp weapons — Christ by nails and Krishna by an arrow

•The teachings of both are very similar — both emphasize love and peace

•Krishna was often shown as having a dark blue complexion — a color close to that of Christ Consciousness

Similarity in Names

Christ comes from the Greek word 'Christos', which means "the anointed one". Again, the word 'Krishna' in Greek is the same as 'Christos'.

A colloquial Bengali rendering of Krishna is 'Kristo', which is the same as the Spanish for Christ — 'Cristo'.

The father of the Krishna Consciousness Movement AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada once remarked: "When an Indian person calls on Krishna, he often says, Krsta. Krsta is a Sanskrit word meaning attraction. So when we address God as Christ, Krsta, or Krishna we indicate the same all-attractive Supreme Personality of Godhead. When Jesus said, 'Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be Thy name', the name of God was Krsta or Krishna."

Prabhupada further says: "'Christ' is another way of saying Krsta and Krsta is another way of pronouncing Krishna, the name of God…the general name of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, whose specific name is Krishna. Therefore whether you call God 'Christ', 'Krsta', or 'Krishna', ultimately you are addressing the same Supreme Personality of Godhead…Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu said: namnam akari bahu-dha nija-sarva-saktis. (God has millions of names, and because there is no difference between God's name and Himself, each one of these names has the same potency as God.)"
-----------------

These two most admired of religious icons also claim to hold the completeness of their religions by themselves. It's interesting to note how alike each one spoke in the Bhagavad Gita and the Holy Bible about the righteous way of life.

(From about.com)

Meaning to say, that, there are many similirities between Krishna and Christ, that is why many people relate them with their name...

And, ultimately, this strong the point of Single Culture which is Love and Light with Single Source Energey which is God..

May God Bless everyone...

Tashi delek, Chandresh,

You've raised some very intriguing points in this discussion.

In my belief, they are one. Just as all things are one. What I mean is, In the West, many believe in Christ. What Westerners know of as Christ would be Krishna for Indians. But they aren't separate. The being that exists as Krishna is the Indian version of the West's Christ.

Similarly, because there are so many names for God, and because I believe there is both a Male Divinity and Female Divinity, I call the One, or what most people call "God" the Source. But it's the same around the world and during all times.

Namaste.

Tashi delek!! Greetings!!! Saille

Thanks for nice post.

Very agree with your thoughts and I understand no-one will deny these.

GOD is one and only.

In India there are two different words, "BHAGWAAN" and "ISHWAR", many people thinks both describe the GOD.. which is correct but not accurate... "BHAGWAN" means a person who is born and made impossibles, possible. Like "Krishna", "Rama", etc. That is why we Say "Ram Bhagwaan"...

"ISHWAR" never born which is the ultimate source of all energies, the Almighty and formless... Muslims says "ALLAAH", we all say "GOD"....

"Krishna" and "Christ" have many similarities.. my opinion is, born to represent "ISHWAR", the Almighty in earth.. that is why similar in nature...

Namaste.. Love and Light :F0

well... it is very vast topic to descuss..

Both are believed to be sons of God

we all r the children of god..
jesus always claimed he is the son of god..
Lord krishna told Arjun "yogkshem vahamyaham".. he is the Brahm..the supreme power..Bhagwat Geeta

in my opinion jesus was a great Saint and his teaching was basically inspired by the buddhism LOVE ,FORGIVNESS and MERCY.. which is very neccessary for happy peaceful life..

Beside love ,lord Krishna thought us about our duty KARMA..and also encourage us to raise voice angainst injustice..

Dear all,
Chandresh, I liked the post.
It was great of you for starting the inquiry.
It's very well thought by the author with lot of truth.
Your explanations of "Bhagwaan", "Ishwar" are accurate.
Also respect & agree with your opinion that followed.

Saille,
Yes Female divinity is major aspect ignored. This year I am going to touch many aspects of it on the forum. Your presence is most requested.

Ultimately we all our Gods. sounds a bold & egoistic statement. "I am." and "aham" also sound so similar and mean same. Its misunderstood for ego.
Both Christ & Krishna have said & lived "Aham Brahmasi" therefore in the body they are great incarnations & spiritually Gods.
Rest is belief of people whether you believe in "Dualism/Dvait" or "Non Dualism/Advait" or "Shagun", "Nirgun". Brahman or Para-Brahman.

Anybody who want to debate on this can start a separate thread, but do belief in what you say , don't express somebody else's view. I am open to debate.
Blessings.

Dear Steve

Gratitude for your kind appreciation.

I am very agree with your opinion that many people misunderstood about the words which told by incarnations, even they are not much symbolic, they are clear somehow.

Saying of these which includes "Aham Brahamsmi" indicates Supreme Power.. GOD.

In "Yoakshem Vahamayam", Lord Krishna ensures ON BEHALF OF GOD, that the devotee of HIM (GOD) will remain save and well.

Regards to all.
